With AI: Can we forget how to think, write, decide?

2. Decision Abdication: "AI Says So"

What it is: AI advises, we blindly follow.

Problem: AI can be biased, miss context, have bad data.

Long-term: We learn to value empathy less because "AI handled it."

4. Privacy and Surveillance

Reality: AI needs data. Lots of data.

The risk: Where does that data go? Who has access?

Nightmare scenario: Your AI life coach knows everything about you. Then it gets subpoenaed in a lawsuit. Or hacked. Or sold.

Not paranoia: This already happens with social media data.

5. Job Displacement: The Elephant in the Room

Reality: AI will make some jobs obsolete.

Principle 1: AI Assists, Humans Decide

The rule: AI can advise, suggest, inform. But important decisions? Those are human.

In practice:

Good:

  • AI generates content → Human edits and approves
  • AI analyzes candidates → Human does final interview
  • AI suggests treatment → Doctor makes final call

Bad:

  • AI writes content → Auto-post without review
  • AI scores candidates → Auto-reject lowest scores
  • AI diagnoses → Patient gets treatment without doctor check

The key: Human in the loop for important stuff.

Principle 2: Use AI to Amplify, Not Replace, Skills

Think of AI as: Power tool, not replacement.

Example - Writing:

Bad approach: "AI, write my blog." → Post without edits. Result: You don't learn writing. Content is generic.

Good approach: "AI, give me outline and first draft." → You refine, add insight, inject personality. Result: You learn writing. Content is unique. 3x faster.

The pattern: AI does grunt work, you do craft.

Why? Because not everything should be optimal. Sometimes messy and human is better than perfect and artificial.

What they need to learn:

Not: "AI says X, so X is true." But: "AI says X. Let's verify. What are the sources? Could there be bias?"

Creative Problem-Solving

Not: "Ask AI for the answer." But: "Think it through first. Then see what AI suggests. Compare."

Emotional Intelligence

Why it matters: AI can't do empathy, emotional nuance, reading rooms.

What to teach: These skills become MORE valuable, not less.

Digital Literacy

The Future We Want

Not dystopia: Humans made obsolete by AI.

Not utopia: AI solves everything, no problems.

But realistic optimism: Humans and AI collaborating, each doing what they're best at.

The goal isn't to fear AI or reject it. The goal is to master it.
